After such a bright weekend, we’re finally welcoming spring! For cat owners, now’s a perfect time to check that your cat is up to date with their vaccinations. Whether they spend all of their time indoors or enjoy outdoor adventures too, disease exposure can happen in unexpected ways. Vaccines play a vital role in keeping them healthy.

Core vaccines every cat needs

• Feline herpesvirus and calicivirus – Protects against common (and highly contagious) respiratory infections that can spread through sneezes, shared bowls, or even on your clothing.

• Feline panleukopenia (FPV) – A severe, potentially fatal disease similar to parvovirus in dogs. Vaccination is the best protection.

• Feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) – Especially important for cats who spend time outdoors or live in multi-cat households. This virus weakens the immune system and is spread through saliva and close contact.

• Rabies – If you plan to travel abroad with your cat.

Why do indoor cats still need vaccinations?

• Viruses can travel: Some illnesses are airborne or can be carried in on shoes and clothing.

• Unexpected escape: Even the most content indoor cat might Houdini out an open door or window when you least expect it, exposing them to risks.

• Vet visits and catteries: If your cat ever needs to stay at a cattery or visit the vet, they may be in contact with other animals, increasing their exposure to diseases.
