Keeping Cats Itch-Free This Summer

Stopping fleas and ticks for your furry sun worshipper

Whether your cat is a garden prowler, a windowsill sunbather, or a full-time homebody, warmer weather brings a spike in fleas and ticks, and it doesn’t take much for these pests to find their way into your home. Staying on top of parasite prevention matters more than ever in summer.

Fleas – Nightmare nibblers

Fleas are tiny, fast and excellent at hiding, but the chaos they cause is hard to miss. Even a single flea can trigger intense itching, skin irritation, and allergic reactions. And once they start laying eggs, which can be up to 50 per day, it's easy for them to spread around the home.

Even indoor cats can be at risk. Fleas can hitch a lift indoors on your shoes, clothing, or other pets. Prevention is far easier (and far less stressful!) than treating a flea outbreak.

Ticks – Hiding in the summer garden

Ticks tend to hide in tall grass, hedges, or bushes – exactly where your curious cat might like to explore. While tick bites are less common in cats than in dogs, they can still happen, especially if your cat roams outdoors.

Ticks can carry diseases and are often hard to spot under thick fur, particularly around the neck, ears, and chin.

What you can do

  • Use regular flea and tick prevention. There are lots of safe, easy options – we can help you choose what suits your cat best

  • Do quick checks during grooming, especially if your cat has been outside

  • Wash your cat's bedding regularly and vacuum soft furnishings to break the flea life cycle

  • Treat every pet in the household, not just the one who seems itchy

Remember: flea and tick prevention is like brushing your teeth – keeping up with it regularly helps avoid much bigger problems down the line.
