Planning a Pet-Friendly Getaway This Summer?
Whether you're staying in London or heading further afield, here’s how to keep your pet safe, cool and comfy on the go
Holidays are better with your best friend – especially the four-legged kind! If your summer plans include your pet (and naturally, we hope they do), a little preparation goes a long way to make your trip smooth, safe and stress-free.
From local adventures in local green spaces to sunny staycations and even travel abroad, here are our top tips for travelling with your pet this summer.
Staycation safety
Sticking closer to home? Whether it’s a cosy countryside cottage or a pet-friendly hotel by the sea, here’s what to keep in mind:
Double-check that your accommodation welcomes pets and is securely fenced if needed
Pack the essentials: food, water bowls, lead/harness, poo bags and your pet’s favourite toys or blanket for comfort
Don’t forget medications and flea/tick treatments – parasites don’t take holidays!
Beat the heat
Summer travel means sunshine, but our pets can overheat quickly. Keep them comfortable with these simple steps:
Avoid travelling during the hottest part of the day
Never leave pets in parked cars, even with the windows cracked
Take regular breaks for water, shade and leg stretches
Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when pavements are cooler
Travelling abroad?
If you’re going overseas, your pet will need an up-to-date animal health certificate. We are authorised to issue the documents you need. The rules have changed since Brexit, read more about travelling with pets and what you may need to do on our pet travel page
Different countries have different rules on vaccinations and parasite treatments, so we’ll guide you through exactly what your pet needs for a safe, legal and happy trip.
The certificate needs to be issued in advance, so get in touch with us as soon as you can – contact us
Local tips
Heading out for a day in one of the local parks? Great idea!
Be sure to bring fresh water
Check local park rules (especially off-lead areas)
